Hoboken police said the gun was too encrusted with algae and marine growth to tell a make, model or serial number. They said they couldn't even tell if it had been fired recently - or if ever.
A man "caught" the gun yesterday at about 6:15 when he was fishing off the pier, said police. This isn't the first gun found in the river off Pier A. A fisherman found a gun in the river about ten years ago, says Paul Ricciardi, 38. Ricciardi, a parking meter attendant for the city of Hoboken, has been fishing "every day" off Pier A since he was 10.
